Spain is the fourth country in the world with the most sites inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list, just behind Italy, China and Germany, and with so many there's bound to be several you haven't heard of. Spain has an impressive 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, scattered across the country from the northern shores of Galicia to the mountains of Andalusia, and even in the smallest of the Canary Islands. While many are familiar with the world-renowned UNESCO sites like Antoni Gaudí's works in Barcelona, the Moorish marvels of the Alhambra in Granada, or the Real Alcázar of Seville, Spain has much more to offer.
Spain, with its rich and complex history and its far-reaching cultural and territorial influence, is characterized by a remarkable diversity of historical influences and regional distinctions. This diversity is evident in everything from historic cities and the Routes of Santiago, to cultural landscapes, national parks, and a variety of religious and ecclesiastical heritage. The complete list includes Ibiza, Alhambra, the Historic Centre of Toledo, Cordoba and Venecia, Prehistoric Rock Art Sites in the Côa Valley and Siega Verde, the Cave of Altamira with prehistoric art, amongst others sites.
